April 2nd, 2016 Dialogue Show:
This week on Dialogue, Steve Kotchko interviews State Senator Beth Bye, Co-Chair of the legislature’s budget-writing Appropriations Committee. She discusses the difficult job of writing a new state budget after having just cut $220 million for this year’s deficit, and now having to cut even more with an expected $900 million deficit for next year. Senator Bye says they are going to be painful cuts, in this election year where nobody wants you to cut the program that’s important to them. She also explains to the average citizen why Connecticut is constantly running budget deficits, which is leading to program cuts and state employee layoffs this time around.
